The new and improved Earthdata Forum offers a suite of features to help users get answers to their Earth science data questions.

NASA’s Earthdata Forum has a new look and feel. The Earthdata Forum Team has brought all the features users have come to appreciate into the heart of the Forum, enhancing user’s interaction with the NASA Earth science community, moderators and subject matter experts from all 12 of NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs), the Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) Program, Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) keywords, and other areas.

Now, when users visit the Forum, they are invited to take a Guided Tour highlighting the Forum’s major features (there is also a Guided Tour button on the top menu for future reference.) In addition, an extended Search box allows users to type questions if their search of the Forum’s content doesn’t yield their desired results. Further, the condensed Filters are now located across the top to give more room for viewing questions and comments, the “announcements” section displays the latest DAAC highlights and training opportunities, and the announcements section is collapsible to give users more viewing space.

Information on the Earthdata Forum is easily and freely searchable, but requires a login to post questions or comments. Users’ existing Earthdata Login can be used with the Forum, or simply register for a new account. Logging in also provides additional features for selecting favorite filters if users prefer to follow specific content, giving thanks when you find helpful posts beneficial, and multiple options for managing users’ posts and notifications. Posting questions on the Earthdata Forum related to data access, tools, and services is encouraged for transparency and visibility, and the Earthdata Forum Team encourages user contributions to discussions to assist other members of the Earth science user community in resolving concerns.

Forum Resources

Additional information on features of the Forum can be found in the General User Guide located under the “Help” menu. Also, the Filter Forum Definitionsweb page provides descriptions for project acronyms, tools, and services. Comments about the Earthdata Forum application may be directly submitted using the “Feedback” link in the top right corner.

Happy Posting!
The Earthdata Forum Team
